Madhu Kapoor writes an entertaining tongue-in-cheek philosophical book about everyday observations and ethical dilemmas. She has proclivity for paying a close look to the most clichéd terms and jargons and wobbled tenacity that is frequently used and ossified in our life…but as a light-hearted philosopher she knows that no fixed ethical philosophy works as a solution to all daily dilemmas.
The purpose of philosophy is not to make clear what ethical principles we have available, or how to correctly apply them in given situations and what the pitfalls of each set of principles might be in each given ethical situation.
Even if you are not familiar with any notable philosopher and type of philosophy, this book will take you through the common observations of everyday life lying in abeyance. It isn't ridiculous but brims with absurdity. That is fine with philosophy that is as inconclusive as life’s uncertainties, as the author asserts that the essential moral virtue for a philosopher is an almost self-annihilating kind of courage. After a certain period of wild exploration, she used the tools of philosophy to defend, elaborate, and expand her thoughts, but never dare to discover anything new because it’s been already discovered. If we consider our usual way of life, we prefer to be conventional and orthodox, as our good sense and unwavering mind demands that we should remain what we are.
Free from comprehensive ethical subjectivism and notions of utility since it as chirpy as chatty book in its essential soul, and from a spectrum of a philosophy.
Madhu's book is entertaining and engaging...it could be well used in an ethics class as a focus of discussion but such acts should be accompanied by clear presentations of all commonly applied ethical principles and how one might go about applying them to all the entertaining dilemmas this book presents.
All in all, this is an excellent book on new and light philosophy with shedding light on several areas of our mundane unquestioned existence…the philosophy can only broaden the gauge for thinking…nothing much except it. Each one of topics has moments of real brilliance. All are valuable in at least several respects.
