Love in Search of Peace by Somprokash Das is a terrific offbeat romance novel that explores the equation of love with worldly parameters. Is love only for two successful people, does society care if money meter is fine…do they need to have jobs of equal office? Such similar questions keep popping while reading this novel that narrates the fateful tale of two young IAS aspirants in Delhi: Ritom and Tamannah.
Ritom has had heartbreak, thus he grew skeptical about love. However, back in Delhi while preparing for IAS, he stumbles upon Tamannah. She is beautiful, hailing from a rich Marwari family, which is hell bent on marrying her if she fails to show substantial results. Ritom is mature beyond his age. His character is beautifully sketched; he is someone caring for her and understands the value of her only chance in the IAS exams. Ritom avoids Tamannah. But she is crazy for him. The bonding of love among them grows inevitably, however, at the same time both realize the value of settling professionally.
The book is poignantly a study into the lives of students preparing for IAS exams. It shows how they have to handle love, peer pressure, and how to keep themselves motivated in all circumstances. Ritom and Tamannah are placed quite contrastingly, their ideology seeks peace in love, but that hardly exists in today’s world. Ritom is pragmatic and Tamannah optimistic. It becomes interesting to see their reactions when the results were out.
Tamannah was as devastated as Ritom. They
could feel each other’s pain but could not produce any respite. Tamannah was searching
for any solace for Ritom. On the other hand, Ritom knew that Tamannah deserved
someone who would compliment her in every aspect. He was a complete mismatch.
He should step out immediately. The result had buried two desires with one
blow.
Though both characters are roped in for similar exams and career, however, their tenacity towards love varies a lot. With students and friends like Trisha around, the chemistry between Ritom and Tamannah is worth noticeable. The way author captured psychological essence of IAS aspirants is impressive, feels real and vivid.
Weighing a gamut of love equations in life is the concurrent theme of the novel; however, in doing that so it also becomes rich with philosophical content in between. The ending of the novel will surprise, especially the behaviour of the girl. You may feel for their true love, and long to see them rise above their differences of tenacity and barriers set by our society.
Somprokash Das has ignited a fresh debate on love. The storyline is packed with relatable situations and characters. Overall it instills a fresh breath to “romance genre” of the Indian literary arena which has gone obsolete with its typical love tales of college and office premises. Highly recommended!
