Alakshya by Anupam Dubey is a deep and insightful book that marks the difference between gross and subtle, visibility and imperceptible, our existence on the earth and spiritual consciousness of the universe. The title Alakshya is a Hindi word, it means imperceptible, which cannot be perceived by hedonistic eyes. We humans have the tendency to believe what we live, see, and feel. We are so bound by tangible experiences that we ignore the intangible non-dualism that is the ultimate truth of the universe. Dualism is that we stick to. However, Alakshya lays emphasis on imperceptible elements.
The book is divided into four parts. The format of the book is unique yet simple. Before each essay there is a short Hindi poem that tries to justify the concept lying ahead. The author has huge influence of Vedas and Upnishads and Yogic practices. The book’s content is linked to timeless wisdom enshrined with these Hindu scriptures.
The first part “The Intuition” is epic with its relevance. You may sigh in appreciation for the author, the way he links and dredges up a gamut of main and sub Upnishads with various teachings and classification works like eye-opener. The essay on gross to subtle is well-explained with lucid language. When the author refers to subtle he strikes the chords of what is real and unreal in consciousness. Turiya state is as good as a new learning for most of us, as we fail to recognize that state where we are connected to higher purpose of consciousness but not present in sleep or drowsiness. If you read the book slowly and give it a time for brooding and retrospection, surely it returns to you with its classic teachings.
The second part “The Method” has much orientation towards Yoga. The author simplifies their essence and philosophy over postures and other visible aspects. Inebriation is a fine topic that depicts that any external toxic material causes addiction and hangover but the true inebriation is a stimuli of something internal. Slightly heavy yet short, the book tries to dole out insights relevant to our existence and one can go deeper like a diver in the depths of the ocean. The meaning of our existence is not layered, rather it is profound and so bottomless that we can only try to decipher it, cannot grasp it.
The scaffold of the book is built on knowledge of Hindu scriptures and fosters spiritual liberalism. This is a book that can liberate you from worldly mess and set you on a journey of self-discovery, resolving karmic imprints and finding the answers you've been seeking. It empowers readers to cultivate a positive mindset, shedding limiting beliefs along the way. Intense and subtle yet engrossing, Anupam has weaved the concepts with utmost care and usefulness.
