Getting Over It by Prabadip Ghai is a very meaningful and relevant book in today's time. Corona pandemic has changed the order of the world. Business run pell-mell, there is chaos for health and safety, millions of people died across the globe, lock down and its allied impact has not only affected street vendors but also medium to large scale businesses. Things are not the same as we used to see or think. The pattern of the world has been changed drastically. Everywhere people are insecure, they are diffident, there is sadness of job loss and unemployment, and trades have been halted. In a nutshell, economies collapsed and the people are suffering big time.
This book which has a long and self-explanatory tagline does not bog you down with contemporary uncertainties, it rather tries to guide how to shine and remain in light with respect to jobs and finance and business and steady income and much more. The book says learn skills to create secondary income, achieve financial stability, become mentally strong and thrive in difficult times.
Whatever it promises in its preface or tagline, it delivers. In addition it also tried to answer the questions like how can I start something of my own, what are the alternatives to my career, how to set a second source of income, and so on.
Clearly, the motto of the book is to help millions of people either trying to kick start a career or those who are stuck in between due to uncertainty thrown at us by this outbreak of Covid 19. The book is divided into two parts. First is ‘Plan A’ and the next is ‘Plan B’. Plan A is a mix of encouraging content plus what to do to land up in a job. As the one reads the book, it becomes clear that the author is trying to hold your hand and show you the way. The preface and initial content of ‘Revisiting the Plan A’ is quite promising. Firstly, the author puts some questions and then encourages one to remain positive, cool and calm, and then he elaborates upon the aspects that are mandatory but if not proper attention paid small things can ruin up one's chances of a job or professional career.
It is the same section that guides its readers on how to make and where to update CV, how to search for relevant and helping hands, how to leverage the power of professional networking sites like LinkedIn and so on. The first part is highly important for people looking to start a career any time soon.
The second segment of the book delves into Plan B. It starts with a strong aspect SWOT – Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats. While the Plan B sounds innovate and contemporary, the content of Plan A is more of like traditional approach. However, both segments serve best when it comes to helping the people in their professional lives.
Also, the second segment is more about opportunities and online scope as a source of income. The author has updated his readers wherever there is an opportunity, be it online or offline. Other than the helpful content, in between quotes and one-liners act like a gem in the crown.
It is a beautifully collated book of just 57 pages. The author of the book is a man of wisdom. He did not shy away from sharing his experience and tips for the people that are naive and new in their fields. Written in simple language, the book caters to the need of many people stuck in the uncertainty of life. In a nutshell, the book tells us that we should use our skills, experience to grow and remain positive and resilient our life.
