Author Highlight: Priyanka Bhuyan Discusses her New Book ‘Kaleidoscope of Love’ and Stories from her Life
We are back
with another author interview. Today, with us, we have Priyanka – the author of
‘Kaleidoscope of Love’. In this
interview, she talks about her writing aspirations, and the route to getting
her book published. Stay on...while we chat with her.
What motivates you to write?
Frankly
speaking my mom. I never thought I would
be able to write a book let alone publish it. But my mom recognized that I had
a flair for words. So from childhood she used to egg me to write for magazines,
newspapers which I did. And it got considerable good response whenever it got
published. Moreover I have an active imagination so I thought why not to put it
into use and connect with people on a wider range. So that’s how it all began.
How do you handle the response of this book, especially from your friends and colleagues?
I am
overwhelmed and didn’t expect that people will like it. In fact I was also
ready for some brickbats in a positive stride. But people have been more than
encouraging and supportive.
What kind of research did you do to pen down this book?
You won’t
believe it but all the stories in the book have been real life incidents and
people. So all my experience in all these years with different people have all
been brought to life through these stories. For ex the story Harikanta, the
entire background including the name of the area is from my own home since we
too have a similar set up.
What are some of your favourite novels and authors?
Sidney Sheldon
for his surprise element he puts in every book. Moreover the way he portrayed
femme fatale whether it was in Sands of Time or Bloodline have always appealed
to me. Jane Eyre is my all-time favourite and every time I read it I still fall
in love with it. In the current context I like Dan Brown for his extensive
research and the way he spins a plot around it.
Do you think writing a book from the comfort of bedroom is possible?
Of course you
can write anywhere as long as the passion for imagination and creativity kicks
in. The most important thing which I believe is that you must love what you do
and if it is there it doesn’t matter what place it is.
Where do you write from? Do you go to some specific place, like beachside or into the hills?
Coming back to
your previous question I write in my bedroom, in my personal space only. Where
I can be myself and let my thoughts flow freely.
What inspired you to write this book? Any tales to tell…
As I stated
before all the stories in my book are drawn from real life incidents. But what
I found is that the emotion of Love has got so many varied facets but rarely
people deals on it. Sometimes love goes to such an extent that it becomes
obsession. Sometimes for the sake of one we sacrifice the other because for us
both relationships are important. So I
wanted to write on the different aspects and how they are always there but we
never see it. Also I wanted the readers to have something to read which they
can enjoy and finish in 1 go without waiting for the climax whether in a train
or 2 hour flight. So readers, if you are reading it, this is for you.
What was your biggest learning experience throughout the publishing process?
Lots to tell
and speak. I had 0 experiences about this book publishing business. This book
was shortlisted by Leadstart Publishing nearly 2 years back and they had a long
queue and I didn’t want to go for self-publishing at that stage. Although I do
agree that self-publishing is also a great tool for people who have the
resources. So later on Wordit fund came out to support me and I had a wonderful
team backing me up. The entire process went on smoothly right from the
pagination to editing and all. And I didn’t know or had any idea that book
publishing is not only the end there is an entire exercise to reach and connect
with your readers. In fact I am still learning and I have lot to learn and this
journey is just beginning.
Looking back, what did you do right that helped you break in as a writer?
You won’t
believe it but my life’s mantra is always listen to your heart. And to chase
your dreams and believe in yourself. Do whatever makes you happy. Break your
own norms. I had a flair for writing but never took it seriously. But then when I started blogging I started
breaking in as writer and now I enjoy it more than anything else. And as they
say a book is your best friend so similarly when I indulge in writing I don’t
need anything else. So there is no word as Boredom in my life.
Any best piece of writing advice from your side that we haven’t discussed?
I believe it’s
an unending journey, the more we write the more we learn and connect.
Connection is very important; you must connect with your characters to bring
them to life. You must feel what they felt or what you are trying to tell
through them.
Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?
I am an open
book but people who know me rarely know that I am super emotional, super
sentimental and super romantic. Loves to gorge on food and travel. Also I am a certified Angel Therapist and
Reiki III A master.
Any future books that you would like to discuss now?
Well yes my
next book is a mythological fiction. It’s currently in raw format but hopefully
by the end of this year it should be out.
