Book Review: I Want To Run Away by Deepa Iyyer

Romance genre is one of the most popular genres across the world. People prefer reading it for intense characterization and a farrago of emotions. In a romance novel, it is always tough to tag the emotions, as readers easily find themselves swaying up and down with the tide of emotions. Well, this novella ‘I Want to Run Away’ by Deepa Iyyer is slightly offbeat and different in its semblance. It’s a romance novel, but differs in its intensity and other elements. This novella is based around Aashika – a young girl from a small village called Valayapuri , located somewhere in the interior part of South India. She is a college student, but at the same time very ambitious about her love choice, career choice, and not to leave out freedom in her lifestyle. Dreaming big is not a sin – however it may be in her village where people are still quite remote by the way of life, and technology has very marginal intervention and women are reckoned nothing more than slaves. If you read th...

Book Review: Two Girls by Shivam Diwedi

Two Girls by Shivam Diwedi is a captivating romance novel with a healthy dose of adventure and action. As soon as the story kicks off, readers will be thrown into question as why Rudra is being taken to the police and being investigated for the disappearance of a girl named Shriya. That itself is interesting enough to nudge readers for a complete read. Most of the romance novels start with something soothing or in a usual way, well this one is a bit different. As the story chugs ahead, it doesn’t take much time to recognize that Rudra is that guy who is going to lead the story from start to end. Well, he does. The author has used flashback and sweeps to make this novel as riveting as possible. Rudra’s character wasn’t developed inch by inch; rather he was shown someone as bold and dashing, of course with good looks. He is an orphan, lives in Kanpur, and works in McDonald's, where a ravishing girl Anika is his close friend. The most of the backdrop of the novel is abou...

Book Review: Drizzle of Love by Sangeeta Tomar

In life we come across strangers at some point of time. Whether we believe in them or not, there are many instances that they inevitably change our life. Meeting and getting affected by a stranger is nothing but a part of our destiny. But there are some people that are highly skeptical about strangers. They just run away or ignore them like anything. It is their rigid belief – don’t trust them. Why? They have no plausible reason to justify their stance. But be it anything…stranger is a captivating word. It sways hearts of many. So, on the similar lines, debutante author Sangeeta Tomar presents Drizzle of Love, a light soft romance novel. It’s a simple novel with lucid language usage. It throws no difficulties to its readers. It’s as receptive as it should be for a compulsive to a naïve romance reader. The story of the novel is self-paced; it’s neither sophisticated nor ostentatious. There is something fresh and natural about it. At the façade of the story, we see Sia is the protago...

Book Review: She Stood by Me by Tarun Vikash

“She Stood by Me” is a contemporary romance fiction, written by Tarun Vikash. The novel is poignant in expressing a message that love is just not a relationship, rather it is more than a relationship and a feeling that is beyond comprehension. There come and goes millions of romance cum love stories in the market, but the kind of chirpiness and liveliness this novel contains is rare to find. The story commences with Abhi and Aparna. Both are students, looking forward to crack some exams, and for the same they attend the same coaching class in Patna. In the initial chapters, we also see other important yet auxiliary characters like Manish, Nidhi, parents, sisters, dads, and so on. All may not have a direct effect on the storyline, but some or other way catalytic to the overall plot. Abhi and Aparna have a liking for each other and begin seeing each other since very early. The way they manage to date without phones and other smart facilities is really charming. That time the cu...

Ruskin Bond, the man who noticed those dusty roads, fresh flowers drenched in sun rays, water dripping off the leaves, gushing through the rivers and the heavenly smell of earth after the first rain before anyone else. He noticed it all when we failed and decided to make us walk through all of it in a blink of an eye like he always does. That's the power he holds, the true magician who needs no introduction. Book Review: The Script of Life by Abhi

The Script of Life by Abhi is a gradually moving light romance novel set in India. Running up to 170 pages, this novel is suitable for naïve romance readers to finish in one go. The novel features the story of two people hailing from diverse background – one is a sort of social media blogger – and the second one is an aspiring actor with theatre experience. The novel doesn’t feature larger-than-life characters; rather they are simple and aspiring as you and me. They are decent and relatable. It is the small things that they do in their lives with full gusto that matters – the author has brilliantly captured the streak of a commoner with good party spirit. Probably, due to this aspect, the novel at all junctures sound contemporary and relatable. A close look reveals that the novel holds two narratives, as there are two protagonists Charumathi and Kabir. The first half of the novel plays around this young and chirpy girl named Charumathi. And I felt she drives the plot till end. She jo...

How do you handle the response of this book? Fortunately for me ‘Second Chances’ has received positive response from most of its readers. This book is in the romantic-comedy genre and hence is a light read. Though it gives out an inspirational message the main aim of the book is to provide entertainment and it has succeeded in that aspect. There is no better complime...

Book Review: Shades of Pink by Ketan Modha

Shades of Pink by Ketan Modha is a riveting romance novel featuring Maya as a protagonist. The novel is poignant in bringing forward the conflict of interests and other grim societal layers that do no good to an individual. From love and society’s point of view, the novel holds a special place in the Indian literature arena. The title ‘Shades of Pink’ subtly signifies the placement and plight of women from one generation to next. Here, the story is almost two-generational. First is Maya, and the next is her daughter Ria. Though Maya runs like banter throughout the backdrop; however, the first part is totally engrossed with her. Maya lives in a middle-class family in Ahmedabad with her professor father Vishnu and mother. Maya was keen to have admission in a medical college, but fate has something different in store for her. Upon her father’s insistence, she chooses Microbiology. She is not happy with this choice, but feels tied. For Maya, college life is typical until she...

Author Highlight: Priya Das Discusses her New Book ‘Fly With Me’ and Stories from her Life

We are back with another author interview. Today, with us, we have Priya – the author of ‘Fly With Me’ . In this interview, Priya talks about her writing aspirations and the route to getting her book published, and her love for romance genre. Stay on...while we chat with her. What inspired you to write this book? Any tales to tell… I had a ligament surgery. I was in bed for 3 months. Couldn’t go to college and had to skip a year. Reading was the only thing that gave me any peace at that point of time. And then there was a contest in a national newspaper where people were asked to write dedications for their mothers for a Mother’s Day feature. I wrote something and sent it across. And I came first and got loads of prizes. That’s when my mom said I should try and write something for myself. And since I am always reading, she thought I could be a writer as well. That’s when I thought of giving it a go. I was sitting at home and wallowing in self-pity. I had nothing else to d...

Book Review: The Beautiful Sky by Harshwardhan

The Beautiful Sky by Harshwardhan claims to be the longest romance novel in India. Indeed, it is…running over 500 pages, while reading one could feel its expanse and traverse. The novel is built on a powerful theme: love is beyond a common vista and true love demands sacrifice. While reading this novel about Amyra and Vian, you may conjecture that love is also blind and it is not for everyone.   It is one of its kind romance novels. Why? It involves a lot of Hindi Shayaris. In fact, there is a Shayari for every event and situation. Such as; “Madad karne wala ek, Charcha karne wale dus, Aur rasta rokne wale hazaar hai. In sab logon se tum umeed Bhi kya rakhte ho, Yaha toh izzat aur iman Dono ka chor bazaar hai….” This Shayari depicts the plight of Amyra when she had to see the court for rape proceedings. Likewise, whenever there is a love in the air, you will find a perfect Shayari forming up in the heart of Vian, the lead character. Or in midway, he would do a Sha...

Book Review: His Lingering Perfume by Sarah D

This is a short sweet fast-paced romance about two introvert young lovers. They are nameless, rich, not spoilt, yet their quest is to find themselves worthy of love of each other. The secret lover of a teenage girl comes to meet her often through a covert route…they kiss and cuddle and foreplay passionately but never cross that barrier of physical intimacy maybe because they value their love that way…without making it fully. Thus, a punch line ‘a Raw Story of Awkward Love’ fits best in the plot as they both could have explored various boys and girls given their status quo. However, they chose one another over the worldly fulfillment. Their love is pure, and they keep it undefiled by maintaining being celibate. Often lovers are seen getting chaotic in the heat of unbridled desires, but they were different like mermaids…beautifully charming but away from that taboo thing of our worlds. As a reader you would not only appreciate but also feel affectionate for their epoch of love journe...

Author Highlight: Durriya Kapasi Discusses her Book ‘Once Upon a Genie’ and Stories from her Life

It’s time for another author interview. Today, with us, we have Durriya Kapasi, who currently lives in Udaipur, India. She loves reading, and writing is her painkiller. Adventures, cooking and shopping is her game. She’s a big time foodie. What is the genre of your book? (For example, fiction, poetry, fantasy, romance…) I usually try my hand at all possible genres, I love exploring my writing. ‘Once Upon a Genie’ is a fantasy novel, whereas romance is something which strongly binds the human relationship, so fantasy + romance this time. Please describe what the book is about in short. Once Upon a Genie is a love story between a (human) girl and a genie, where the genie has to return to his world of Djinns but he leaves the symbol of his love and hopes that he will come back one day. The story revolves around the genie and also unfolds the mysterious world of Djinns, their traditions, life and value. Most importantly how the two creatures human and genie can be toge...

Book Review: Baaz by Anuja Chauhan

Indian contemporary novelist Anuja Chauhan is quite popular among Indian readers for writing light-hearted romance. Well, with ‘Baaz’ she was up to something else, probably a foray into serious, intense, war-fiction literature. Unlike her previous novels ‘The Zoya Factor’ and ‘Battle for Bittora’, this book is different in theme, orientation, and backdrop, because of a male protagonist. Yes! Readers won’t be bereaved of romance; it too has the lightness of romance in patches. Baaz is more serious in its façade, since the story will take you back to 1971 when Pakistan was fighting to take over Bangladesh and India interfered to its rescue. Ishaan hails from a small village in Haryana, like any other typical village boy he loved watching passing by trains. From there he grows up to become an officer in IAF.  While serving his country as a fearless pilot, he develops deep bonding with two more officers Maddy and Raka. They three form an inseparable kind of bonding and friend...

Book Review: Until the Music Stops by Naimish Srivastava

Until the Music Stops by Naimish Srivastava is one of its kind psychological thrillers, with a good share of romance and action. It is just 169 pages, but reads like a saga of love, lust, greed, and madness. The kind of adrenaline rush it pumps up with the vivid description of events and backdrop is really impressive. The author must have gone into a sort of trance to deliver something special like this novel. The story features only a handful of characters but it never sounded dull or shallow in intensity or shaping up the scenes of horror, action, tension, romance, and much more. The facade and blurb of the book makes it look like a simple romance thriller but deep inside, after 60 pages, the novel turns out to be something else – probably beyond the imagination of a straight reader. That holds the charm in a true sense. The story kicks off with a reunion sort of college party of some old acquaintances. Their share and contribution is reflected with back stories and sweeps....
