My Clingy
Girlfriend by Madhuri Banerjee is utter crap because of three reasons. First,
there is a lot of lecturing about men and women, which is totally to fill the
pages. Second, the story is dead flat and stagnant. And third, the author being
a Bengali has put in a lot of Bengali stuff in it which sounds long boring to
others.
Even the
concept of the book is predictable and quite common. The novel has been written
from a male point of view. This is a story of a guy called Obrokranti Banerjee
– he thinks that he is very smart when it comes to flirting with women. This
time he gets Radha as his girlfriend. They are in living relationship for over
two years. The girl lives with him and does not work anywhere that is something
awry about this pesky character. She is
either obsessed about her guy or that is one way of showing off. She follows
him, she does not allow him to talk to anyone, and she calls him during the
office hours like anything and there are more things that she does to frustrate
her lover boy. And above all, she is zealous of his mother and suspects him of having
affairs with other women. On the other hand, Obro is pissed off with Radha. He
longs to talk to his mother and wants to go out for drinking with his friends
or night out with male colleagues. But he can’t, since he gets something
special from Radha.
He works in a
media agency. Even at the office, Obro’s life is a mess. There is something
fishy about his boss and he is always on the verge of losing his job. Because
of Radha’s over obsessive attitude and Obro’s submissiveness – life takes a bit
clumsy turn for him. It is apprehensive that Obro has kept Radha for sex –
that’s why he does not think of breaking with her. Well, time and situations
are something that defines the fate of humans. They part away. Obro loses his
job and goes back to his hometown to see his mother.
The theme of
the novel is quite contemporary and tries to highlight the life of today’s
young generation. What value does money and lust hold for them over anything
else? Overall, it is a boring read for someone into serious reading. Even the
writing style is not impressive…she is just another overrated writer.
