Author Highlight: Vikram Discusses his New Book ‘The Awakening of an Indigo’ and Stories from his Life
We are back
with another author interview. Today, with us, we have Vikram – the author of
‘The Awakening of an Indigo’. In this interview, Vikram talks about his writing
aspirations, the route to getting his book published, and his inclination
towards spirituality. Stay on...while we chat with him.
What motivates you to write?
Love is the
answer. Well, at least that’s what motivated me to write…
How do you handle the response of your new novel, ‘The Awakening of an Indigo’?
I handle it
patiently, I mean there are times when things don’t go according to your plan
but you have to trust the process and keep yourself positive throughout the
phase.
How do you define the specific genre for your book? Is it a blend of both Spirituality and Self-Help?
See, I have amalgamated
sort of all genres in one book; a few may call it a new genre in itself. It’s a
blend of both spirituality and self-help if one sees that way, but I leave that
up to my readers what they take from my book and how they take it.
Do you think writing a book from the comfort of bedroom is possible?
To write you
need to be comfortable with the idea of writing itself whether you wish to
write or not; the place won’t matter if you are sorted about it. I wrote my
first draft inside a temple and then the final draft was written in my bedroom.
Where do you write from? Do you go to some specific place, like beachside or into the hills?
For my first
book, I spent a lot of time writing in the passages and hallways of one Ganesh
temple nearby my residence. I prefer into the hills over beaches however I did
not write into hills yet.
Did you do proper research before penning down this book?
Yes, being a
lawyer has always strengthened my ability to research any topic thoroughly.
What inspired you to write this book? Any tales to tell…
The immediate
inspiration to write came from a meet up organized by a girl named Bhagyashree
on meet up application which she had created for writers seeking inspiration
for writing and self-help. At least, I went for the inspiration I don’t know
about others. Bhagyashree and other people who showed up on that meet up
convinced me to write first draft and arranged for another meet up in a week’s
time for the same. I wrote it and read over the first chapter to them in next
meet up and everybody started asking me what would happen next in the story!!
And that’s when I realized I do have a story to tell in detail and not just one
chapter…
What was your biggest learning experience throughout the publishing process?
Don’t take
anything at face value and do not believe the promises made to you, be
realistic during that phase and act practically.
Looking back, what did you do right that helped you break in as a writer?
I read other
authors work and I never stopped daydreaming about how it would be to read my
own book one day, and I would also say that the decision to start my own law
practice helped me on a serious level to become a writer.
Any best piece of writing advice from your side that we haven’t discussed?
Everybody has
a story to tell; it’s just the matter of time and the favorable/unfavorable,
seen/unforeseen, negative/positive situations and or circumstances you find
yourself into that determines whether you should write it and let the world
know or just brag about it at social events.
Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?
I am an
advocate and I run my own litigation practice and managed to write this book
without any special training or degree in creative writing. It was sheer
dedication and passion that helped me finished my first book.
Any future books that you would like to discuss now?
The part two
of the series is in the process and it may get available in the winter this
year.
